Gospel of Matthew 26:14–27:66
Theme: Walking with Christ
My dear friends in Christ Jesus, today we step into the beauty of Palm Sunday. We join that crowd on the road into Jerusalem, people waving branches, shouting Hosanna, full of hope for what they believe Jesus will do. And yet, we know as Christians that this is a week that comes with joy, pain and suffering. It’s important to note that Palm Sunday holds joy and sorrow together, celebration and sacrifice, all in the same breath.
In the Passion gospel of Matthew 26 :14ff, Jesus enters the city not on a warhorse, but on a humble donkey. He doesn’t come with force or fear. He comes with mercy. He comes with love. And as we gather this morning, we’re invited to let that same unconditional love shape us and to let Christ’s way become our way.
Palm Sunday isn’t just the beginning of Holy Week; it’s an invitation. An invitation for Christians to walk with Jesus through the fullness of Passion story. To let His courage steady us, His humility soften us, and His hope carry us.
As we begin this sacred week, I want to offer three simple lessons we can carry with us.
First: Jesus Christ’s way is the way of humble love.
Jesus chooses gentleness over power. He shows us that real strength looks like compassion, listening, and choosing love even when it costs us something.
Second: God is present in every season, in joy and sorrow alike.
Palm Sunday reminds us that our lives, like this day, hold both celebration and struggle. And Christ walks with us in all of it. There is no moment whether bright or dark when God is absent.
And third: The journey through the cross leads to hope.
Holy Week is honest about pain and betrayal. But it never ends there. God is already at work bringing life out of what feels broken or impossible. Resurrection is coming. Whatever may feel broken in your life this morning, there is ressurection.
So, as we wave our palms, as we step into this Holy week together, may we walk with Christ in humility, in trust, and in hope. May His love take root in our lives. And may we discover again that the One who rides into Jerusalem rides straight into our lives with courage, with compassion, and with a love that transforms us from within. May the Holy Spirit help us to discern to know more about Jesus and His love for us.
